Tell us about yourself?
Hi, I’m Fiona and I’m a digital marketing specialist. I’ve been living in Berlin for a little under a year now, I moved here during the summer of 2021. I’d visited the city a few times before and always loved the atmosphere here. There is always something to do no matter what your tastes are! Unlike many of my colleagues, I don’t have a background in science, previous to starting my role here in Labforward I worked for a small jewellery shop in Dublin that specialised in wedding and engagement rings – so a little different to what I’m doing now.
When I’m not working, I like to stay active. I really enjoy running and am quite lucky to live close to a number of great parks here in Berlin. Recently I joined a gaelic football team which has been a great way to get to know more people here. If you haven’t heard of Gaelic football, it’s an Irish sport and is basically a mix of soccer and handball. It’s very popular back home in Ireland, although funnily enough, I had never played it myself until moving to Germany.
Fun fact
This is a hard question to answer.. I mentioned this in my morning meeting and my manager suggested that my greatest achievement is that I manage to get up for work on a Monday morning.. I guess I should be glad I’ve already had my performance review if this is considered a success story at the minute 😀 . Aside from my ability to wake up in the morning, I also did Irish dancing for years and traveled around Europe attending different competitions. I have sadly hung up my dancing shoes for the moment, but maybe I’ll find another group here in Berlin sometime.
Wildcard Question
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My parents moved house when I was 20 and while clearing out my bedroom I found some old diaries. When I was 9 apparently I was fully convinced I was going to be a popstar. I wrote in depth about my plans and had even practiced signing autographs 😀 .
Why did you join Labforward?
Ah, this question reminds me of my interview. There were a number of reasons Labforward appealed to me. As I mentioned before I don’t come from a scientific background but quite a few of my friends have done PhD’s and postdocs in recent years and I remember initially reading about Labfolder, our ELN, and immediately wanting to tell them about it. Not only because I thought it seemed like a great product, but I had heard them complain so much about how frustrating it was when lab members left and took their notes with them so suddenly they were missing loads of important data. The idea of working for a company that allowed me to contribute to something that made the lives of scientists easier seemed like a no-brainer.
On top of this, Labforward really encourages personal and professional growth within the company and is supportive if you want to pursue any further courses or training which is something that is really important to me.
What is your main role?
What is your main role?
I am a digital marketing specialist and have been working at Labforward for the past 6 months. Marketing is definitely something I have always been interested in. I’m really glad to be part of a small team as there’s a huge opportunity for growth as our company continues to achieve more of its goals.
My main responsibilities include looking after our paid and organic social media campaigns, monitoring their progress, and forecasting trends.
It’s a really exciting time to be part of the marketing team as we’re working on a website relaunch and have started new company branding campaigns to showcase not only our products but the amazing company culture!
What excites you about your job?
What excites you about your job?
I love that there is no ‘typical’ day in the office. With digital marketing there are so many different roles and responsibilities that need to be considered, so it’s never boring.
What excites me is that my responsibilities often include writing social media content, new ad copies and creating visual graphics in photoshop or even running around the office making videos. I really enjoy the creative aspect of my role as it can be a nice break away from analyzing the data from our campaign performances.
At the moment we have some open roles in the marketing department, so if you want an exciting role at a great company, don’t hesitate to send in an application to join our team!
