Meet the Members: Quỳnh

Have you met Quỳnh? She’s our quirky Office and Events Manager, who fills our office with people and a welcoming environment. By the way. She also sings.

Tell us about yourself?

Hey, I’m Quỳnh – my full first name would be Trúc Quỳnh but everyone calls me Queenie or Queen! I was born and raised in southwest Germany but my parents emigrated from Vietnam back in the 80s. My family comes from a humble background but despite this, my parents have worked their way up to provide for my little sister, myself, and our family back in Vietnam. So we literally like the Drake song “Started from the bottom now we’re here”.  I started out in teaching and led English & Philosophy classes for a period, but I have a background in HR and Project Management. In my spare time though, I still teach Vietnamese classes on Sundays for foreign-born Vietnamese students. I moved to Berlin in 2019 to work for an education startup and am now stuck here working for another startup 😛 !

My hobbies are all predominantly music-related. I like playing the piano, singing, and dancing in my spare time. Whilst I have no pets at the moment, I’m aiming to become a Corgi-mom in the near future.

Fun Fact

A fun fact about me is that I have 2 alter egos on Social Media: Firstly I have Quỳnh – @quynh.music, the singer and songwriter. On this platform, I promote myself as an artist and share the songs that I sing and write (SHAMELESS SELF-PROMO INCOMING 😛 : I just released my first single “+49 Calling” on October 1st and it’s now available on all streaming platforms!)

The second social media identity is Cô Quỳnh – @quynh.teaching and on this platform, I’m a Vietnamese teacher and I like to use this platform to make short and fun videos to encourage people to learn Vietnamese.

Wildcard Question

What is your favourite sport, either to participate in or watch?

I love martial arts. I used to watch a lot of Boxing and MMA and I also did a bit of Boxing and Jiu-Jitsu as I think it’s important to be able to defend myself.

Why did you join Labforward?

Unlike a lot of my colleagues, I don’t have a background in science – rather the opposite actually, as science classes were always my worst at school. I’ve also never worked for a company specializing in digital software, so working at Labforward is definitely a different environment than some of the places I’ve worked at previously. I got to know the company through a good friend of mine who referred me and I shot my shot. I didn’t expect that I would in the end get to work for such a fun company!

What is your main role?

What is your main role?

I’m working in HR as an Office and Event Manager, taking on more HR responsibilities, especially when it comes to onboarding new hires. I really enjoy helping people integrate into a new environment and connecting them with other employees. A project I’ve recently been involved in and takes up a lot of my time is the Office Redesign Project where the objective is to make the office environment a nice and welcoming place to work.

What excites you about your job?

What excites you about your job?

I love working with people. I am a people person and my background in pedagogy not only helps dealing with children and young adults, but also with grown-ups. No matter the age, people often still need guidance and I am always happy to help. It’s also very rewarding to see people smiling back at me or seeing more people come to the office since the place is more comfortable and warm now. Other than that I like challenging myself and am excited for more opportunities!
